LORD O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will list the difference between British controls over lead and those of our future partners in the E.E.C.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT (LORD SANDFORD)

The maximum content of lead in petrol permitted by E.E.C. countries is as follows:

Grammes per litre
West Germany 0.4
France 0.64
Italy 0.64
Belgium 0.84
Netherlands 0.84
Luxembourg 0.84

The present limit in the United Kingdom is 0.84 grammes per litre, which is to be reduced to 0.64 by the end of this year, 0.55 by the end of 1973 and 0.45 by the end of 1975.
