§ Mr. Dudley SmithFollowing is the information:
not to supply transport planes for refugee purposes in the Southern Sudan, in view of the fact that the airlift to return the 700,000 uprooted refugees had the highest priority from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
§ Mr. WoodThe United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has asked for co-operation in mounting an airlift for food supplies. He has stressed the need of adequate preparations for the reception of substantial numbers of refugees returning to the South and for the settlement of displaced persons already there. Our bilateral contribution of £200,000 is in fulfilment of this purpose, but as regards an airlift I have nothing to add to the reply I gave the hon. Member on 19th July.—[Vol. 841, c. 139.]
