Mr. Dell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what information he has in cases where the defendant pleaded not guilty, about the proportion of persons who were acquitted on all charges and the proportion who were acquitted on some charges but convicted on other charges; and whether, for the most recent convenient period, he will publish an analysis of such information by type of offence, type of court and area of the country;

(2) what information he has on the rate of acquittal in criminal trials; and whether he will publish an anlysis of such information in cases where the defendant pleaded not guilty by type of offence, type of court and area of the country.
