HL Deb 08 August 1972 vol 334 c1088WA
LORD INGLEWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that grants under Sections 3 and 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969 are not being paid for developing enterprises of a commercial character from which an economic return can be expected and for which finance from normal business sources is available.

LORD DRUMALBYN

The national Tourist Boards have discretion under Section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969 to assist tourist projects by means of grant or loan, or both, and in considering commercial applications for financial assistance, the Boards are required to consider whether assistance from public funds is needed in each case.
