They do not include the costs of accommodation and common services, the cost of research carried out by prison medical officers and prison psychologists in the course of their normal duties, expenditure on research into crime carried out by universities and other bodies without financial assistance from my Department, or the annual contributions from the Scottish Home and Health Department to the staff costs of the Home Office Research Unit.
