§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Attorney-General whether he will cause an investigation to be made to ascertain how and why Mr. Maurice O'Regan who had no criminal record was kept in prison for eight months awaiting a trial at which he was subsequently found innocent of all charges.
The Solicitor-GeneralMy noble Friend has already made inquiries with regard to this case. The defendant was remanded in custody on 6th December, 1971 as he was unable to find sureties for his bail. The case was called on for hearing by the court on five occasions between February and July before the defendant was tried. It was adjourned 269W three times on the application of the defence and twice on that of the prosecution.
