§ 39. Mr. Straussasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what estimate she has made of the annual loss in receipts of one free day weekly, at the eight national museums and galleries which favour a free day, without compensatory increases in entrance charges on other days.
§ Mr. van StraubenzeeThe loss would depend on the day that was free and on the degree of the disturbance which free days caused in attendance patterns. Any estimate is therefore very tentative but if the freeday were at a weekend the loss might be £100,000.
