§ Mr. Loughlinasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied, in the light of experience, that adequate opportunities have been given for archaeological investigations to be carried out before the mass removal of soil and materials in the building of the new car park in New Palace Yard; if he will cause building activities to be suspended if important discoveries are made; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. AmeryI refer the hon. Member to the reply given on 18th July to my right hon. Friend the Member for Wolverhampton, South-West (Mr. Powell). All finds will be recorded and any items of interest removed; and while I am anxious to avoid delay and increased costs I would not hesitate to recommend in costing these if justified on archaeological grounds.
