HC Deb 02 August 1972 vol 842 cc141-2W
Mr. Robert C. Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many fatalities occurred in domestic premises in the full year to the latest available date due to faulty electrical wiring of a worn-out nature.

Mr. Lane

I have been asked to reply.

The precise information asked for is not available, but in 1971 in England and Wales 17 deaths resulted from fires in dwellings caused by electrical wires and cables. In the same period there were 69 accidental deaths caused by electric currents from domestic wiring and appliances, excluding deaths from conflagration and heat.
