§ Mr. Bishopasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list in the OFFICIAL REPORT the names of those countries represented at the Court of St. James and which have a woman as Head of Government; if he will list the names of women who represent the United Kingdom as Ambassadors or High Commissioners; and if he will take action to encourage and allow more women in his Department to hold responsibilities commensurate with those held by women abroad.
§ Mr. KershawIndia, Israel and Sri Lanka (Ceylon) have women Heads of Government. At present the United Kingdom has no women Ambassadors or High Commissioners.
I intend to maintain the policy of the Diplomatic Service which aims to encourage and allow men and women officers alike to hold responsibilities commensurate with their abilities.
