HC Deb 01 August 1972 vol 842 c70W
62. Mr. Fry

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take action to ensure that imported protective footwear is up to accepted safety standards.

Mr. Dudley Smith

No. In industries subject to the Factories Act, workpeople normally obtain protective footwear through arrangements made by their employers. It has long been the practice for employers to make available footwear manufactured in accordance with the relevant British Standards. My right hon. Friend has no reason to believe that employees will not continue to have access to footwear of an appropriate standard.
