HC Deb 01 August 1972 vol 842 cc75-6W
Mr. John Page

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects the report on equal pay by the Office of Manpower Economics to be published.

Mr. Maurice Macmillan

The Report is published today. I am sure that it will be of considerable interest to all concerned with the implementation of equal pay. I am writing to the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress to seek their views on a possible order under Section 9(2) of the Equal Pay Act, 1970, in the light of the Report's findings. In addition, I propose to take steps shortly to remind employers and unions of their obligations under the Act.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he is taking to encourage Remploy to pay equal pay to women for equal work.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

No encouragement is needed. Remploy is well aware recent convenient date; and how these figures compare with the figures for 1950, 1955 and 1960, respectively.

Mr. Dudley Smith

The number of registered dock workers employed in these ports on the relative dates is as follows:

of the need to move progressively towards equal pay.
