§ Mr. David HowellStatutory protection is afforded by Section 135 of the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland), 1972 and an interim staff commission has been set up to safeguard their interests during the reorganisation. Approximately 6,000 local government staff are engaged on services due to be transferred to Government Departments.
