47. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many adults and youths, respectively, lost their lives due to drowning whilst bathing from beaches during each of the past five years; and what advice and assistance he gives to local authorities designed to reduce this loss of life.

The Home Office has circulated to local authorities a comprehensive guide on the prevention of drowning accidents, prepared by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, and sponsors publicity designed to support the activities of local authorities in this field.
