§ Mr. Percivalasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what recommendation he has received from the Criminal Law Revision Committee about the admissibility in a criminal trial of evidence of the previous convictions of an accused person; and whether he accepts this recommendation.
§ Mr. MaudlingReports that I have received the committee's recommendations are incorrect. The committee has not yet submitted its report. The chairman has, however, informed me that it is not the committee's intention to recommend, as has been reported, that evidence of the previous convictions of an accused person should be generally admissible.
