§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report a breakdown of the total of £56 million he estimates as being spent on medical research, into the departments responsible and the recipients.
§ Sir K. JosephThe estimate of £56 million which relates to the year 1971–72, comprised:
£ million Medical Research Council 23½ The Health Departments 9½ Ministry of Defence 1¼ Other Departments (chiefly Overseas Development Administration and the General Register Offices) ½ University Grants Committee 21 The recipients are too many and varied to be detailed.
