HC Deb 11 April 1972 vol 834 c148W
Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many medical and dental staff are employed by the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board; and what is the additional number required to make this department fully manned.

Mr. Alison

One thousand four hundred and eighty-nine, excluding locums and general practitioners, at 30th September, 1971; this is a provisional figure which includes that for medical staff alone quoted in my reply to the hon. Member on 29th February. As to the second part of the Question, the number of vacancies at the same date was 177—also provisional—of which 60 were filled or party filled by locums: though no other exact measure of the number required can be laid down centrally we recognise that additional posts will be needed to meet growing needs, and the board is continually assessing these.—[Vol. 832, c.78.]
