HC Deb 11 April 1972 vol 834 c157W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that money paid in the form of the betting levy drawn from the horse-race punters is ploughed back to improve the sport of racing; and whether he will initiate a scheme, if need be by legislation, to ensure that money paid in taxation on football pools is in part ploughed back to assist the sport of football, or to arrange a system whereby football pool firms operate a levy system similar to that operated in horseracing.

Mr. Higgins

My right hon. Friend has no proposals for such a scheme.
