JosephThe nearest date for which details of staff numbers are available is 1st July, 1970, when there were 13,119 executive officers employed in my Department at salaries in the range of £741 to £1,835. It is estimated that the annual salary cost of these staff amounted to about £21 million. The150W for the stated increases since then and the depreciation in purchasing value, their relative worth to date; and what is the estimate of their values in October, 1972, assuming the continued fall in money values since last October.

corresponding figures for 1st January, 1972, are 13,845 executive officers employed in the range of £860 to £2,150 at an estimated salary cost of about £26½million in a full year.
