§ The Prime MinisterI informed the House on 6th July, in reply to a Question from the hon. Lady the Member for Halifax (Dr. Summerskill), of a number of measures taken by the Government to this end. In addition, legislation is to be introduced to provide in England and Wales for the exercise by husband and wife of equal rights of guardianship over their children; and Government Departments are discussing with the Staff Side 307W of the National Whitley Council details of the report published last week on the employment of women in the non-industrial Home Civil Service. Progress continues to be made in examining the many other detailed aspects of this subject: and I have asked my right lion. Friend the Home Secretary to assume a co-ordinating responsibility.—[Vol. 820, c. 1122–3.]
