HC Deb 25 October 1971 vol 823 c256W
Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the West Pennine Water Board, the Mersey Weaver River Authority, and other bodies about the reduction of compensation water to the River Tame; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Graham Page

The West Pennine Water Board has applied for a drought Order under the Water Act, 1958, to permit the reduction of the compensation water required to be discharged from several of its reservoirs, and this is receiving urgent consideration.

The Mersey and Weaver River Authority does not oppose the application, and the only objection made to the proposal has been withdrawn.

My right hon. Friend expects to reach a decision on the application within the next week or so.
