HC Deb 25 October 1971 vol 823 c274W
Mr. Hall-Davis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps are being taken to adjust the Registrar-General's estimates of population to reconcile them with Census returns.

Sir K. Joseph

The Registrar-General's estimates of the population of local authority areas at mid-1971 will be based primarily on the provisional Census figures. The estimates will embody adjustments to take account of Census information which became available after the publication of the provisional figures, persons enumerated in the Census in one area whose usual residence was in another area, and an estimate of the change between Census date and midyear.

A further revision may be made at a later stage when final figures from the Census become available.
