§ Mr. Leslie Huckfieldasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what effect the proposal to raise the age limit for motor-cycle driving licences to 17 years of age is expected to have on the home market for motor cycle group vehicles and the retail trade generally.
§ Mr. RidleyNo precise estimate can be made. About 10 per cent. of motor cycles, other than mopeds, are operated by 16-year-olds, and initially the home and retail markets might be expected to decrease accordingly. The longer-term effect will depend on the choice of vehicle made by 17-year-olds when they become eligible for driving licences.
