HC Deb 18 October 1971 vol 823 c58W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the figures for unemployed in the greater Manchester area in September 1970, and September, 1971; how many vacancies existed; and whether he can give a breakdown of these figures in terms of age and sex.

Mr. Dudley Smith

The figures relate to the Manchester travel-to-work area which comprises the Manchester, Altrincham, Eccles, Irlam, Levenshulme, Marple, Middleton, Newton Heath, Openshaw, Prestwich, Salford, Stockport, Stretford, Swinton, Wilmslow, Withington, Worsley and Wythenshaw EE Areas.

Following is the information:

A detailed age analysis of the numbers registered as wholly unemployed, except casual workers, is made in January and July but there is no corresponding analysis of the vacancy statistics.
