§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he is yet able to give an estimate of the increase or reduction of the number of civil servants which will take place in the event of Great Britain joining the European Economic Community.
§ Mr. David HowellIt is still too early to make a firm estimate. If Parliament decides that we should enter the E.E.C. the effect of accession may be that some parts of the Civil Service will expand a little but we expect to achieve offsetting economies.
