HC Deb 30 November 1971 vol 827 c94W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the Commission of the European Economic Community has issued two directives regarding non-salaried activities connected with tax consultation, preparation of tax declaration and certification of tax consultants; and whether he will obtain details of these directives and publish them in the OFFICIAL REPORT, stating to what extent he has implemented or intends implementing these directives.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The Commission of the European Economic Community has not yet issued any directives of the type mentioned by the hon. Member. The Commission has, however, issued two draft directives designed inter alia to secure the mutual recognition in Community countries of the qualifications of tax consultants and other professional persons engaged in tax work. These are at present being considered both by member States and by the United Kingdom Government.

The two draft directives concerned are published in the four official languages in the Journal officiel des Communautés européennes for 25th October, 1971 which is available through Her Majesty's Stationery Office.
