HC Deb 30 November 1971 vol 827 cc85-6W
Miss Quennell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he is satisfied that the Hampshire County Council can decide upon the alternative routes for the trunk road A3 suggested by the feasibility study carried out over the past three-and-a-half years, without the supply by him of traffic figures for the routes, of economic assessments, of locations for interchanges, and of detailed information of the effect of the routes upon the landscape, towns, villages and people; and if he will make a statement;

(2) why, when the Hampshire County Council was asked by him for its views on the alternative routes for the trunk road A3 propounded by the feasibility study carried out for his Department over the past three-and-a-half years, no traffic figures were supplied, no economic assessments were provided, no locations of interchanges were given for the alternative routes, and no detailed reports were supplied on the effect of the routes upon the landscape, towns, villages and people.

Mr. Graham Page

The Department will be contacting the county council to discuss how best to provide the additional information the request for which was received on 15th November. I hope that this further information will enable the council to come to a preliminary view on the alternatives.
