§ Mr. Anthony StodartI am encouraged by what has already been achieved, although there is no room for complacency. For much of this century, farmers in this country have been facing a need not only to make good some substantial and longstanding deficiencies in the lime status of the soil, but also to consolidate any advances that are made. The Agricultural Advisory Council's recent Report on soil structure and fertility concluded that in general the position was now satisfactory in the East, the Midlands and the North; but elsewhere that occupiers need to be specially vigilant on this aspect of their husbandry.
