§ Mr. Pavittasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will circularise all local medical committees to ascertain their attitude on a voluntary ban on the prescribing of amphetamines by their members.
§ Sir K. JosephThe voluntary acceptance of restraints on the prescribing of amphetamines is a professional matter on which the initiative is being taken by the medical profession itself. In my view this is the most effective way of handling the matter. The British Medical Association recently arranged a conference on the subject at which I was present: but I do not think that it would help if I intervened in the way proposed.
