§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent Great Britain's entry into the Common Market will necessitate the adoption of the taxation policy of the countries of the Six on cars and vehicles; and to what extent these policies differ from existing British forms of taxation.
§ Mr. HigginsThe existing policies of the Six for the taxation of cars and commercial vehicles are not uniform. Draft proposals for harmonisation of the taxation of commercial vehicles have been published by the Commission, but these are subject to further discussion. No proposals exist for harmonising the taxation of cars.
