HL Deb 17 November 1971 vol 325 c744WA
LORD MANCROFT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, when they are preparing the regulations to control the use of heavy Continental vehicles on the roads of this country, they will also consider the German practice of restricting the use of such vehicles on a Sunday.

LORD SANDFORD

The object of the Bill which I introduced yesterday is to remove certain practical difficulties which prevent effective enforcement of our traffic laws in relation to foreign vehicles. It will in no way seek to alter those laws which are applicable, without discrimination, to all commercial vehicles, whether British or foreign. British heavy goods vehicles may be used without restriction on Sundays and discrimination against foreign vehicles of this type would be undesirable.

House adjourned at twenty-four minutes past seven o'clock.
