asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will announce the starting dates of the following major road improvement schemes; Newcastle to Scotswood Bridge, the bypass of the Al at Gosforth and the new Redheugh bridge and approach roads.

Newcastle County Borough Council, the highway authority, has not yet submitted the Newcastle to Scotswood Bridge (Scotswood Road) scheme for inclusion in the preparation list.

An estimated starting date for the bypass of the Al trunk road at Gosforth depends on the result of current investigations into possible alternative lines. Due to the need for a check on the box girder design, Newcastle C.B.C. and Gateshead County Borough Council, the highway authorities, do not expect to start on works for the new Redheugh Bridge and approach roads until the latter part of 1972.
