§ Mr. Adleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he is satisfied with the safety arrangements at the M4-M5 motorways Almondsbury interchange; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he will introduce a 50 m.p.h. speed limit on the M4 and M5 motorways at the approaches to the Almondsbury interchange.
§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsI have carefully studied the driving behaviour needed at this intersection, which will be lighted throughout and be under closed circuit television surveillance. I do not think a 50 m.p.h. speed limit on the approaches is called for or would be realistic, but the Department will continue to monitor the operation of the intersection as traffic increases.
