asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what international response there has been to his proposal for a new international reserve currency arrangement; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Higgins

The proposals set out in my right hon. Friend's speech at the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund were commented on favourably by Ministers from a number of other countries. Following a decision by the governors at the September meeting the Fund's executive board is about to begin detailed international study of these matters.
