Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the official standing committees involving persons other than civil servants with which he consults periodically about the housing and building programme; and what action he is taking to merge or otherwise reorganise the bodies involved.

Consultations take place with the National Consultative Council of the Building and Civil Engineering Industries (N.C.C.) and its associated bodies dealing with specific areas of activity. Within the N.C.C. framework there are standing consultative committees for housing, civil engineering, subcontractors building materials, and statistics. In addition there are regional joint committees of the building and civil engineering industries in ten English regions (including London), a joint advisory panel in Scotland and a joint advisory committee for Wales.

The consultative arrangements were reviewed with the National Consultative Council in March, 1971. As a result the former Housing Programme Working Party was reconstituted as the Standing
