HC Deb 16 November 1971 vol 826 c79W
Mr. Carter

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the current rate of rise of food prices.

Mr. Prior

Short-term trends are considerably affected by the incidence of seasonal factors, particularly at this time of the year, but the level of the Food Index has shown little change over the last few months.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement on his Department's national survey in which evidence is produced to show that housewives are having to spend £2.32p per head on food; why this figure has risen by 13p over the previous quarter; and whether he will give details showing how much of the 13p was due to price increases.

Mr. Prior

As to the main part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 26th October. The answer to the last part of the Question is, "About 10p."—[Vol. 823, c.300.]
