§ Mr. Michael HeseltineThe order of cost for a typical conventional lighting installation on a new motorway is about £15,000 per mile. Maintenance cost per annum varies between 10 per cent. and 15 per cent. of the installation costs. The cost per mile of lighting can be affected by the frequency of interchanges, type of lighting installation and availability of electricity supply.
