HC Deb 08 November 1971 vol 825 c99W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the minimum floorspace required by her regulations for a teaching space in a secondary school designed for 30 pupils as compared with the space required under the Shops, Offices and Railway Premises Act for adult employees; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. van Straubenzee

The minimum teaching area depends on the total number and age range of pupils for whom the school is designed: I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the relevant regulations. There are no statutory requirements on classroom sizes in secondary schools.

The Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act requires a minimum floor area of 40 square feet and a minimum room volume of 400 cu. ft. per employee.
