HC Deb 04 November 1971 vol 825 c13W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if, in view of the takeover by breweries of hotels, restaurants, motorway services, airport shops, and other outlets, he will refer the relevant industries to the Monopolies Commission.

Mr. Ridley:

My information is that monopoly conditions as defined in the legislation do not prevail in the hotel and catering industry as a whole or in any major part of it. I shall, however, continue to scrutinise any takeover which falls within the scope of the legislation.
