HC Deb 28 May 1971 vol 818 c255W
Mr. Pounder

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on his, recent official meeting with the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland.

Mr. Maudling

I was glad to have the opportunity, as part of the continuing process of exchanges between the Northern Ireland and United Kingdom Governments, to meet Mr. Faulkner on 24th May when he was in London and to have a general discussion with him on matters concerning Northern Ireland.

In the course of our discussion we agreed on the following terms of reference for the economic and social review which, as previously announced, is to be carried out in Northern Ireland: "To review the prospects for economic and social development as envisaged in the development programme with particular reference to the present and expected levels of investment in Northern Ireland and to recommend to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Governments any further measures which might be adopted". The names of the people to carry out the review will be announced shortly.
