Mr. Goodhartasked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications whether he will introduce legislation to set up a standing committee with representation from the British Broadcasting Corporation the Independent Television Authority and the Arts Council in order to promote the transmission of regular television programmes from those theatres and opera houses which receive subsidies from the Arts Council.
§ Mr. ChatawayNo. Responsibility for programme content rests with the broadcasting authorities, and it would not be appropriate for the Government to try to influence them in the way my hon. Friend suggests.
