HC Deb 25 May 1971 vol 818 c50W
33. Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what percentage of handicapped people are in receipt of supplementary benefit; and what steps he is taking to reduce their dependences.

Mr. Dean

Approximately 45 per cent. of those receiving benefit who have been sick for more than six months have supplementary benefit, either alone or as an addition to sickness or industrial injuries benefits. The hon. Member will be aware of the improved provision for the chronic sick contained in the National Insurance Bill now before the House.
