§ Mr. William Hannanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that Glasgow Royal Infirmary employs policemen for three to four hours three nights weekly at an annual cost of £1,500; if he will inquire into the circumstances which necessitate police attendance and satisfy himself whether such a cost should fall on the hospital service; and if he will send the result of his inquiries to the committee examining the licensing laws in Scotland.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellI am aware that the presence of policemen is considered necessary on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings to protect patients and staff from patients and companions who may be aggressive. The cost of providing this service is reimbursed to the police authority by the hospital authority.
The Committee will be examining all relevant aspects of liquor licensing.
