§ Miss Quennellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if the encouragement given by Civil Defence Committees to the active support of the younger generation of volunteers in the form of National Service accords with Her Majesty's Government's policy;
(2) if he will make a statement on the rôle of Civil Defence Committees of local authorities in the discharge of their responsibilities, especially in regard to non-military disasters and the co-ordination of voluntary effort.
§ Mr. MaudlingI hope that a statement on the emergency rôle of voluntary societies and volunteers in war and peace will be made before the summer recess.
