§ Mrs. ThatcherAs I announced on 6th May, the Government will make available the sum of£76 million for the improvement of student grants over the triennium 1971–74. After full discussions with the local authority associations of England and Wales, the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and the student unions in accordance with the agreed procedure, my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Scotland, and I have decided to increase grants for students on first degree and comparable courses as follows:
