HC Deb 20 May 1971 vol 817 cc352-3W
59. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the numbers of patients admitted to Queen Charlotte's Hospital in each of the years 1969 and 1970 from each of the two groups of London Boroughs, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Ealing, Hounslow, and Richmond; and if he will now state the catchment area he intends to use for calculating the future provision of maternity beds in West London.

Mr. Alison

Following is the informationThe area used for calculating the future needs for maternity beds in West London is that of the London Boroughs of Hammersmith, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster. In calculating these needs account has been taken of the fact that a substantial number of patients will come from outside this area to the teaching hospitals within it. In general, however, it is preferable for patients to receive hospital services within reasonable distances of their homes.
