HC Deb 17 May 1971 vol 817 c215W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, what is his policy on the provision of local radio stations for Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chataway

The Government's plans for the future of local radio, which include the retention of the Welsh national version of Radio 4, are described in a White Paper (Cmnd. 4636).

The White Paper envisages introducing local radio stations under the control of an Independent Broadcasting Authority throughout the United Kingdom; it will be primarily for the I.B.A. to decide where the new stations will be located.
