§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he is aware that in January, 1971 there were 90,000 people employed in the United Kingdom on the papermaking and board-making industry and that by March, 1971 this had dropped to 83,000; and what action he is taking to assist those made redundant.
§ Mr. BryanFigures are not available for the United Kingdom but between mid-January and mid-March, 1971 the number of employees in paper and board manufacture in Great Britain is estimated 87W to have fallen by about 1,700. The April employment estimates are not yet available.
My Department is making every effort to find alternative employment for those made redundant in the industry.
