Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department now many complaints against the police were investigated by police officers from other forces during 1970; and in how many of these action was recommended by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

In 1970, 50 complaints against the police in England and Wales were investigated by officers from other forces.

The statistics requested in the second part of the Question are not readily available, but I am in touch with the chief officers of police concerned and shall write to the hon. Member.
