HC Deb 04 May 1971 vol 816 cc358-9W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in view of the fact that £5,000 has been paid to the European Movement in the financial years 1969–70 and 1970–71 in connection with the Council of European Municipalities in addition to their Government grant of £7,500, he will now instruct the European Movement and the Council of European Municipalities to publish their accounts so that the taxpayer can see how his money is spent.

Mr. Rippon

No. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office satisfy themselves that the Grant-in-Aid to the European Movement is spent for the purposes for which it is provided. This is done in accordance with normal Government Accounting Procedure for Grants-in-Aid.
